What started out as an adventurous shore excursion during a cruise, turned into a lifestyle hobby. I started Kayak Info Center to share my passion and knowledge about this exciting sport with others. I hope you enjoy the information on this website and that it helps you enjoy kayaking as much as I do.

Some things are important so you will have to get them right away while others can wait until you learn more about kayaking. With so many accessories out there it is hard to know what items all kayakers need and what you don’t need right now.

To help you get on the water faster, here is a list of  items all Kayakers need to get started.

A Sun Dolphin’s Aruba 12-foot model is a good recreational kayak. If you want to go on a fishing trip then the Aruba Kayak has many useful features such as a fishing rod holder, a storage compartment, and a sleek, lightweight design.

Perhaps just as important as a kayak is a good life jacket. You should have a life jacket on anytime you’re in a kayak. Finding something comfortable and that you can move around in is key.

The Onyx Move Vent Dynamic Paddle Sport Vest is designed for kayakers. It comes with tapered-in shoulders that allow for a full range of motion when paddling. The price varies on size , but the ability to move your arms around is worth the investment.

The 3 item of the 6 Items All Kayakers Need is:

Kayak paddle

You won’t get very far without a paddle. You can spend as much as you want on a quality paddle, but if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, consider Bending Branches’ Whisper, 2-Piece Snap Paddles .

These paddles are lightweight, rust-resistant, and fiberglass-reinforced.

Water Shoes

Depending on how you feel about getting your feet wet, or how you get into your kayak, you may want to invest in water shoes. The best shoe for kayaking will be one that allows your feet to breathe, and dry quickly.

A good sandal is one option, such as Chacos Z2 Classic Athletic Sandal. However, if you prefer a shoe that covers your whole foot, try Speedo’s Sufrwalker 3.0 Water Shoe. This water shoe will keep the rocks away from your feet.

Dry Bag is also one of the 6 Items All Kayakers Need

Whenever there is water involved, there is always the possibility that you will dump your kayak. It does not matter if you are in the calmest river, there are obstacles, and sometimes accidents happen.

A good way to stay prepared and not lose all your stuff or get everything wet that you need to stay dry, like your phone or car keys, is to have it stored in a dry bag. A good bag would be Sea to Summit’s 2-liter see-through dry sack. This will hold everything you need, and keep your items dry on the river.

Attach it to your kayak with a carabiner or stow it away in the storage compartment. Then you will know that items are safe and dry, even if the unthinkable happens and you tip your kayak.
